The Philadelphia Flyers’ desire to trade defenseman Mark Streit this offseason has hardly been a secret. It’s one we’ve explored here multiple times. At last check, there was a slim possibility of sending Streit back whence he came, to the Islanders.
The reason for trading Streit is that the arrival of Shayne Gostisbehere usurped his role on the power play, which is Streit’s most valuable skill. Instead of carrying a 38-year old defenseman as secondary power play defenseman at a cap hit of $5.25 million, why not open up some cap space.
