Most eyes around the Philadelphia Flyers are still focused on the Brayden Schenn signing. Schenn is waiting for a significant raise at a possible long term, so the stakes are high.
While we’re still waiting on that negotiation and its looming arbitration date, Ron Hextall again took care of business on another matter you forgot about. Yesterday, forward Nick Cousins agreed to the Flyers qualifying offer with a salary of $937,125 for one year.
To refresh your memory, Nick Cousins was an out-of-contract restricted free agent. He earned an NHL salary of $892,500 last season, and under NHL rules, the Flyers were required to offer Cousins a contract of at least 110% of that salary to retain his exclusive negotiation rights.
