The Philadelphia Flyers missed an opportunity to inch closer to a playoff spot by suffering a defeat at the hands of their bitter rivals the Pittsburgh Penguins by a 6-2 score.
Earlier in the day, the Boston Bruins fell to the Chicago Blackhawks, 6-4. The Bruins loss sets the Flyers magic number to 97 to qualify for the playoffs. However, the Penguins defense suffocated the Orange-and-Black so their trip to the postseason is delayed by at least another game.
The biggest loss though may have come via an injury to Andrew MacDonald. The 29-year-old defenseman was hit from behind by Tom Kuhnhackl in a controversial play.
