With the Stanley Cup concluded, the offseason buyout period begins today. There are a few names generally acknowledged to be buyout candidates across the league, and for the Philadelphia Flyers, RJ Umberger is widely expected to be bought out.

With a buyout, the Flyers would save $3 million off their cap next season. The tradeoff is that Umberger’s buyout will cost the Flyers $1.5 million towards their salary cap the following season, when Umberger would otherwise be a free agent.
