Needing a win to mathematically stay alive in the Calder Cup playoff hunt, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms turned to 22 year-old Felix Sandstrom in-net in hopes of defeating the Providence Bruins and the Swedish goaltender did not disappoint.
Sandstrom made 40 saves on 43 shots and helped lead the Phantoms to a 4-3 victory over Providence. Two of those goals came when Lehigh Valley was down a man, but their penalty-killing unit was still able to kill off the other four opportunities the Bruins received.
The young Swede was tested right from the get go, facing six shots less than five minutes after the opening puck drop.
