Philadelphia is getting a second hockey team, as the Aston Rebels of the North American Hockey League are moving to town and becoming the Philadelphia Rebels starting next season, the team announced Monday.
The junior-league Rebels will play their home games at Penn’s Class of 1923 Ice Rink.
“While we enjoyed our stay at the IceWorks Skating Complex [in Aston], we felt that in order to grow awareness of the team and junior hockey itself, it was necessary to find a new home in Philadelphia, and changing the name to the Philadelphia Rebels simply made sense,” Rebels owner Ken Dennis said in a press release.
