Rick Bennett knows defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere's game better than anyone, having coached him for three years at Union College in Schenectady, N.Y.
"He's only doing basically what he did in college," Bennett said before Gostisbehere and the Flyers outlasted Ottawa, 3-2, on Saturday at the ear-splitting Wells Fargo Center. "He's brought it here, and it's truly exciting to see. I'm so happy for him and his family. He's done a tremendous job."
Bennett and dozens of alums from Union and Gostisbehere's high school, South Kent (Conn.)Prep, attended Saturday's game. It was the first time Bennett, who played briefly in the NHL with the Rangers, had seen one of Gostisbehere's NHL games in person.
