Former Flyers defenseman Hal Gill retires after 16 NHL seasons

The 40-year-old defenseman played in over 1,000 NHL games with six teams, including the Flyers.

Gill, now 40 years old, didn't play this past year after his one-year contract with the Philadelphia Flyers expired last summer. In 2013-14 with the Flyers, Gill played just six games. A great guy who the game passed by the last few years, Gill had a strong career ... as summarized well by the NHLPA press release announcing his retirement.

You should probably Gill on Twitter at @Skillsy75 because he's hilarious.
