Flyers send down Vecchione and Vorobyev, roster down to 28

The Philadelphia Flyers’ opening night roster is finally beginning to truly take shape. The team announced yesterday that Mike Vecchione and Mikhail Vorobyev have been sent down to the AHL’s Lehigh Valley Phantoms, bringing the Flyers’ training camp roster to 28.

Three of those players- Colin McDonald, Anthony Stolarz, and Cole Bardreau- will almost certainly be placed on season-opening injured reserve and won’t count towards the roster. That means only two more healthy cuts remain before the team’s roster is finalized.

The news that neither Vecchione and Vorobyev showed enough to make the team comes as no surprise, but the lack of opportunity given to Vecchione in particular severely hamstrung his chances from the start.
