Flyers have tough test as they try to gain ground in playoff race

With Detroit and Boston losing on Tuesday, the Flyers have an opportunity to gain ground when they host powerful Washington on Wednesday at the Wells Fargo Center.

"We were helped out last night, but it doesn't mean anything unless we help ourselves," goalie Steve Mason said after Wednesday's morning skate. "Tonight's a great test against the best team in the league."

The Flyers are tied with Detroit for the last wild-card spot, but have two games in hand on the Red Wings, who are idle tonight. Boston could slip down to the wild-card spot, and the Bruins are one point ahead of the Flyers but the B's have played two more games.
