Flyers defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere has gone from rookie-of-the-year long shot to a legitimate contender.
Oh, he's not the favorite. But thanks to a 10-game scoring streak, he has vaulted into the Calder Trophy race.
In franchise history, no Flyer has ever been won the Calder as the NHL's top rookie.
In the Flyers' 5-1 win over visiting Buffalo on Thursday, Gostisbehere set up Wayne Simmonds' 20th goal, and the assist gave him points in 10 straight games, tying the franchise's rookie record set by Mikael Renberg in 1993-94. It is also the longest scoring streak for an NHL rookie defenseman since Colorado's Barry Beck had a 10-gamer in 1977-78.
