CHICAGO - Two games into the season, Flyers winger Matt Read has earned a promotion.
Read, coming off consecutive disappointing seasons, has a goal and is second on the team with eight shots. He played primarily on the fourth line in the first two games but moved to left wing on the third unit during practice Monday at Johnny's IceHouse in Chicago.
"He's had an impact and has been good," coach Dave Hakstol said after a 75-minute practice.
The Flyers (1-0-1) face the Blackhawks (1-2) at the United Center on Tuesday.
In Saturday's 4-3 overtime loss in Arizona, Read played a handful of shifts on the third line, alongside Pierre-Edouard Bellemare and Dale Weise.
