The Flyers, thanks to Chicago reaching the Stanley Cup Finals with a 5-3 win over host Anaheim in Game 7 on Saturday night, will receive the maximum return in the Kimmo Timonen trade.
Chicago’s win means the Flyers will receive the Blackhawks’ second-round pick in 2016; they also get the Hawks’ second-round pick this year.
In other words, Flyers general manager Ron Hextall picked the pocket of Chicago GM Stan Bowman.
Impressively, Bowman’s Blackhawks are aiming for their third Cup in the last six years.
Timonen, 40, sidelined by blood clots when he was with the Flyers this season, did not play in the final two games of the Western Conference finals because of his ineffectiveness, but he was used sparingly in the first five games of the series.
