Flyers add Calvin Pickard to their crowded goalie list

The Flyers claimed goaltender Calvin Pickard off waivers from Toronto on Tuesday, a clear sign they were not comfortable beginning the NHL season with a 33-year-old goalie attempting to rebound from two surgeries and a 24-year-old one with two knee surgeries and seven NHL games on his resume.

Pickard, who has one year left on a contract that pays him $800,000, has 80 more NHL games than Anthony Stolarz does, and was once considered a big part of the Colorado Avalanche's future between the pipes. Now 26, he was part of a Toronto Marlies team that defeated the Lehigh Valley Phantoms for the Calder Cup last spring.
