It was a sloppy first period for both teams, but especially for the Flyers. They were messing up on even the simplest of plays and Carter Hart had to be sharp behind them to allow them to get into game.
Even the power play wasn’t clicking as they actually gave up two short handed chances where Hart once again stood tall. The Sabres weren’t able to make anything work on their power play either.
The Flyers only managed four shots in the first period while the Sabres had 13. But neither team got on the scoresheet.
