It wasn't exactly shocking, given the limited reps and game production that Rueben Randle and Chris Givens offered in practices and in preseason games, that they were among the first wave of cuts announced by the Eagles on Sunday.
Not surprising, but certainly eye-opening.
The Eagles understood the situation when they signed both Randle and Givens to one-year contracts late in the free agent period prior to the NFL Draft. Both had shown some moments in their previous NFL seasons and the Eagles figured that one-year contracts would put Randle, an enormously talented player who looks the part of a big-time receiver, and Givens, who had such an encouraging start to his professional career, in positions to resurrect their status in the league.
