AFTER EARLY reports indicated that veteran guard Chris Chester would visit the Eagles next week, the former Redskins reportedly signed with the Atlanta Falcons yesterday.
Chester, 32, was released Wednesday by the Redskins, after starting for them at right guard the past four seasons. Had the Eagles been able to sign him, it might have meant an imminent departure for left guard Evan Mathis, who is sitting out OTAs because of unhappiness with his contract.
Terms of Chester’s contract with the Falcons were not disclosed.
It was a little puzzling to see Allen Barbre working at left guard Thursday, when reporters got their first glimpse of OTA work, because Barbre had been slated to replace Todd Herremans at right guard.
