IF YOU ARE a man whose mind stopped evolving at the Neanderthal age or, say, 1975, you could have an issue with the Arizona Cardinals hiring Jen Welter as an intern to coach inside linebackers through their training camp and preseason.
In 2014, Welter, who played 14 seasons of pro football, mostly in the Women’s Football Alliance, became the first woman to hold a non-kicking position in a men’s professional football league when she played running back and special teams for the Texas Revolution of the Indoor Football League.
In February, the 37-year-old, who played rugby at Boston College and has a master’s degree in sports psychology, was named the running backs and linebackers coach for the Revolution, becoming the first woman to hold any kind of coaching position in a men’s professional football league.
