Philadelphia Eagles running back Ryan Mathews will miss the rest of the season after suffering a herniated disk in Thursday night's victory over the New York Giants.
The Eagles confirmed the rusher's absence from the New Year's Day season finale against the Dallas Cowboys on their official Twitter feed based on comments from head coach Doug Pederson.
Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer noted Pederson said Mathews is expected to need surgery as part of his recovery from the ailment. The coach also called the issue a "pretty major deal," per McLane.
