The Philadelphia Eagles have made the first surprise cut of preseason.
According to NFL Network’s Rand Getlin, the Eagles have released wideout Chris Givens, who was signed to a one-year deal during free agency.
This is definitely an unexpected move. The Eagles lack speed at wideout, which was one of the main reasons why they decided to sign Givens.
Givens’ chemistry with Sam Bradford also played a big role in his signing with the Eagles. Givens’ best year as a pro came in 2012, his rookie year, when he and Bradford connected for 42 receptions, 698 yards and three touchdowns.
