Pederson says fumble should have been ruled a dead ball

The Eagles think Ryan Mathews’ fumble should have been a dead ball, because it touched center Jason Kelce, who was partly out of bounds, before the Detroit Lions recovered, setting up their game-winning field goal Sunday.

That was the gist of what Eagles coach Doug Pederson said Monday. Well, actually, the gist of what Pederson said is that the team can’t get hung up on officiating, that “we’ll send a few clips of this game, but that’s not why we lost.”

But before he said that, Pederson said that if the ball touched Kelce, it was a dead ball, meaning the Eagles would have retained possession, at their 45, for a fourth and 2 with 2 minutes and 34 seconds remaining.
