It’s just not a good strategy. Besides, Howie Roseman has done a good job of plugging holes to the extent where the Eagles don’t absolutely require an instant starter via the 2019 NFL Draft. Roseman said as much last week when he stated he feels the roster is ready to play a game right now if they had to.
With that said, there are clearly some positions the Eagles could afford to address more than others in this year’s draft. And given how Philly really seems to be in win-now mode (see: Roseman’s aggressive cap management and acquisitions of older players), there’s some value in adding players who can contribute sooner than later.
