FORMER EAGLES guard Evan Mathis told reporter Mike Klis, from 9News in Denver, that the Broncos' Super Bowl championship team "would have eaten Chip (Kelly) alive. I don't think he could have handled the plethora of large personalities."
Mathis, cut by then-Eagles coach Kelly last June, had sought his release earlier that offseason, when Kelly indicated he had no interest in continuing contract revision talks begun under Howie Roseman. Mathis said he texted Kelly a YouTube clip of Engelbert Humperdinck singing "Please Release Me."
"There were many things that Chip had done that showed me he wasn't building a championship team," Mathis said in a series of emails with Klis.
