FLORHAM PARK, N.J. - Todd Bowles was on his way out of Philadelphia when Chip Kelly arrived in January 2013 to coach the Eagles. Kelly said the two met "for a while" shortly after Kelly's hiring. They had a good talk, Bowles said.
Bowles, who spent part of the previous season as the Eagles defensive coordinator, already made up his mind. He was heading to Arizona to work in the same capacity with the Cardinals. Kelly's search for a coordinator would go elsewhere.
The two men will meet as head coaches on Sunday when the Eagles travel to MetLife Stadium to face the Jets.
