Jets helpful as Eagles regain competence

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- It wasn’t perfect, but it was close enough.

The 0-2 Eagles actually looked competent in building a 24-7 halftime lead over the host New York Jets. Their running game stirred to life on their very first drive, which resulted in a 30-yard Cody Parkey field goal, and they were aided by the incompetence of their hosts.

Wide receiver Brandon Marshall, the Jets’ top weapon, tried a strange lateral on first down after catching a pass at the sideline. He hit Connor Barwin in the helmet with the ball. Jordan Hicks picked it up and ran it to the Jets’ 36, and seven plays later, the Eagles scored their third touchdown of the half.
