But 1999 was a new season and a new start. Trotter became the starting middle linebacker for first-year head coach Andy Reid and led Philadelphia with an astounding 202 tackles.
“When Andy came in, he brought (defensive coordinator) Jim Johnson with his attacking-style defense, and that was a huge part of my success,” Trotter says. “Jim Johnson was so great at getting the best out of his players. He let players play to their strength.
“The way he used Brian Dawkins and me in that defense, he really allowed us to go out and just play our game.
