The Philadelphia Eagles have given Jaylen Watkins, who was an exclusive rights free agent, a one-year contract extension, according to CSN Philly’s Dave Zangaro.
Watkins had the most productive season of his three-year career in 2016. While seeing limited reps behind Malcolm Jenkins and Rodney McLeod, he recorded 32 tackles and three pass deflections in 16 games. He played in 38 percent of the Eagles’ defensive snaps last season.
Watkins’ maturation is certainly promising. After an underwhelming rookie campaign, Watkins was released by the Eagles and signed onto the Buffalo Bills’ practice squad prior to the 2015 regular season, where he was reunited with his younger brother Sammy Watkins.
