In 2014, the Eagles drafted Jaylen Watkins in the fourth round as a cornerback who could potentially play safety. In 2015, they drafted Eric Rowe in the second round with the same description.
Both players started their careers at cornerback. Watkins, who did not make the team out of the preseason last year before signing again, is now a safety. Rowe is still a cornerback, although it’s not out of the question he’d move at some point.
Watkins, who needed to compete for a roster spot again this summer, created more value for himself by playing safety.
