JaCorey Shepherd tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, an MRI exam confirmed on Monday.
The injury will end the season for the Eagles' sixth-round pick, who had been taking first-team snaps at nickel cornerback after the team traded Brandon Boykin last week. Shepherd was a front-runner to win that job.
Shepherd fell to the ground after colliding with Darren Sproles at practice on Sunday. He needed to be carted off the field.
The Eagles like their depth at defensive back, but this injury hurts them at the position. Jaylen Watkins and E.J. Biggers are both options at the slot.
