Bill Davis employs an aggressive scheme. On first- and second-down running plays, the Eagles defensive coordinator typically likes to have as many as eight defenders in the box. On second- and third-down pass plays, he will often send extra pass rushers to pressure and hurry the quarterback.
There have been plenty of exceptions to this rule over the last three seasons, but Davis essentially plays a defense that often leaves his cornerbacks in one-on-one situations. In his first two years with the Eagles, that meant that he had to rely on Cary Williams and Bradley Fletcher on the outside.
