Instant analysis: Eagles sign former Chiefs TE and waive a linebacker

After the Jonathan Cyprien bombshell earlier, the Eagles officially confirmed a move of a different kind. Waiving UDFA LB Joey Alfieri, the Eagles signed former Chiefs and Jags TE Alex Ellis in a corresponding move.

Ellis was on the Chiefs roster last season after stints with the Jags, Titans, and Saints. The former UDFA out of Tennessee stands at 6’4, 236 lbs and steps into a tight end room where he’ll likely be competing with Joshua Perkins for a spot on the bottom of the depth chart.

Don’t write him off, though. The Eagles brought back Richard Rodgers this offseason and will likely run more 13-personnel sets.
