In 2015, the Philadelphia Eagles had one of the best safety tandems in the NFL, thanks to the impressive play of Malcolm Jenkins and Walter Thurmond. Thurmond, however, became a free agent at the end of the year and the Eagles did not seem interested in re-signing the six-year pro.
Now, Thurmond is set to retire from football completely, per reports.
This doesn’t come as too much of a surprise. Thurmond was rumored to be contemplating retirement earlier this offseason. Thurmond had the best season of his career with the Eagles in 2015, recording 71 tackles, 2 sacks, a safety, 3 interceptions and 2 forced fumbles (he also returned an Eli Manning fumble for a touchdown in Week 17 against the New York Giants).
