Eagles take chance on Alex McCalister, DE who dropped in draft

After Alex McCalister arrived at the NovaCare Complex, he heard references to another Florida defensive end with a similar build who used to play for the Eagles. They told McCalister about Jevon Kearse - or, as McCalister has heard, "The Freak."

We'll see about his ability, but McCalister, the Eagles' seventh-round pick, has the frame and pass-rushing potential to elicit those comparisons. McCalister is 6-foot-6 and 243 pounds with 36-inch arms and an 86-inch wingspan. His 121/2 sacks over the last two seasons for the Gators, even though he played fewer than 40 percent of the snaps, showed one skill that the Eagles crave.
