Wendell Smallwood understands the stakes have been raised. A week after the Eagle rookie from West Virginia earned the first kickoff return for a touchdown in the NFL this season, teammate Josh Huff matched the achievement.
Both Eagles are the only two players to reach the end zone on a kick return this season and they are part of a greater effort by the special teams. The competitive nature of both returners is a small part of the reason for the overall special-teams success.
"I think it is friendly competition between me and him and now I am trying to get one up on him and he is trying to get one up on me, but at the end of the day, we are a team and happy for each other," Smallwood said after Friday's practice.
