The Eagles released veteran cornerback Leodis McKelvin on Wednesday, the first of a few transactions expected in the coming weeks to open salary-cap space.
By releasing McKelvin, the Eagles save $3.2 million in cap space and absorb only $250,000 in dead money.
McKelvin, 31, played 13 games and started 12 last season after signing a two year-deal with the Eagles. He had 43 tackles and two interceptions, but his coverage was inconsistent and his health was an ongoing issue. McKelvin came to the Eagles from the Buffalo Bills and knew the defense from his first day because of his background with defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz.
