The Philadelphia Eagles released veteran linebacker Brad Jones and signed Julian Vandervelde on Wednesday afternoon, according to an official announcement from the team.
The reason why the Eagles needed to sign Vandervelde is because backup center/guard Josh Andrews suffered a concussion in Wednesday's practice and cannot play this Sunday. This marks the sixth time in his career that Vandervelde has signed with the Eagles after originally being drafted by the team in 2011.
Jones was released in order to make room for Vandervelde on the 53-man roster. Philadelphia originally signed Jones during the offseason after he was released by the Green Bay Packers.
