Philadelphia Eagles running back DeMarco Murray carried the ball Sunday night 18 times for 65 yards and no touchdowns, while his backup Ryan Mathews rushed six times for 97 yards, with one touchdown.
Despite Murray demanding more touches, according to Michael David Smith of Profootballtalk.com, Mathews is one who deserves more playing time.
Smith writes:
'Overall this season, Mathews has averaged 6.1 yards a carry, while Murray has averaged 3.5 yards a carry. Yards per carry isn’t everything, and a running back whose average yardage is low can still be a good player. For instance, if Murray were getting a lot of two-yard gains on third-and-1, his average yards per carry would be low, but he’d still be a valuable player in the Eagles’ offense.
