BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – It hasn’t escaped the attention of reporters who cover the New York Giants that their new coach, Pat Shurmur, hasn’t hired an offensive coordinator yet.
Shurmur has longstanding ties with Eagles running backs coach Duce Staley, dating to 1999, when Shurmur was Andy Reid’s tight ends coach and Staley was the team’s star running back. They coached together under Chip Kelly from 2013-15, when Shurmur was the Eagles’ offensive coordinator. Both are marinated in West Coast offensive concepts.
“Right now, my focus is winning a Super Bowl for the Eagles. I got blockers and I got blinders on right now,” Staley said Thursday.
