The Eagles traded quarterback Mark Sanchez to the Broncos today for a 2017 conditional seventh round draft pick.
They trimmed $4.5 million from the salary cap with the move and saved an additional $1 million by trading Sanchez rather than releasing him. There were more than one team interested in the 29-year-old quarterback -- including Chip Kelly and the 49ers -- NFL sources said. Otherwise, Denver could have simply waited for the Eagles to cut him.
The Broncos did avoid having to re-negotiate a new deal with Sanchez. He comes under his existing contract with one year remaining at $4.
