To anyone watching Sunday night’s disappointing loss to the Panthers, Ryan Mathews was clearly the Eagles' most effective running back.
With more than nine minutes left in the third quarter, Mathews made a quick cut through the line and scored on a 63-yard dash, seemingly shifting the game's momentum.
However, Mathews received just one carry from that point.
Despite the lack of carries, Mathews ended the game with 97 rushing yards, and is averaging 6.1 yards per carry this season. So why isn’t Mathews, who seems a much better fit in Chip Kelly’s offense than the higher-paid DeMarco Murray, being given the opportunity to run more?
