Akers boots his way into Eagles' hall of fame

The Eagles announced Wednesday that David Akers, the franchise’s all-time leader in scoring (1,323) and games played (188), will be inducted into the team’s hall of fame on Oct. 23, at halftime of the home game vs. the Washington Redskins.

Akers, 42, was an Eagle from 1999-2010, and made five Pro Bowls here, before finishing his career with the 49ers and the Lions. He was cut by the Panthers, Falcons and Redskins before signing with the Eagles, who first allocated him to the Berlin Thunder.

“David Akers embodies everything we look for in a player, on and off the field,” Eagles chairman Jeffrey Lurie said in a statement released by the team.
