Wiggins to be named rookie of the year

No back-to-back NBA rookie-of-the-year awards for the 76ers.

Minnesota Timberwolves rookie Andrew Wiggins will receive the award on Thursday, the Minneapolis Star Tribune first reported. The Timberwolves also sent out a press release, stating they’ll have a press conference Thursday at the Target Center to make a major announcement.

Sixers power forward/center Nerlens Noel was a candidate to win the award. Former Sixer point guard Michael Carter-Williams won the award last season. The Sixers traded Carter-Williams to the Milwaukee Bucks in February.

Wiggins led all rookies in scoring at 16.9 points per game. He scored in double figures in 69 out of 82 games.
