When the Knicks are on the board with the No. 9 overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, a good player will be there for the taking. That's true in almost every single draft. Good players are taken in the later stages of the lottery and even further down the board.
Finding a great, franchise-changing player at that spot (or lower) isn't as promising. Last year, a stacked draft did produce Utah Jazz rookie Donovan Mitchell in the teens, but that's far from a yearly occurrence.
So the Knicks' best route to a star could be based on development and many teams missing the boat on someone with the perfect skill set for today's NBA.
