Sixers to retire Dolph Schayes' No. 4, but Nerlens Noel can wear it

NBA great Dolph Schayes, a player/coach on the original Sixers, will have his No. 4 retired by the franchise on Jan. 23, the team announced Monday.

Schayes, who died on Dec. 10 at age 87, will be honored posthumously in a halftime ceremony of the Sixers' home game against the Boston Celtics.

"Dolph Schayes is a legend of the game and we are proud to rightfully raise his number to the rafters alongside his fellow Sixers greats," Sixers chief executive officer Scott O'Neil said. "It is heartwarming to know that, prior to his passing, Dolph was humbled and excited to learn of our plans to retire his number this season.
