THERE ARE two areas in which the 76ers are noticeably deficient - point guard and reliable outside shooting. Guard Scottie Wilbekin can do both of those things, so the team signed him to a contract yesterday.
Wilbekin, undrafted in 2014 following a four-year career at Florida, played for the Sixers in the Las Vegas Summer League recently and led the team with 14 points a game. A very streaky outside shooter, the 6-2 Wilbekin was named the SEC player of the year as a senior and twice made the conference's all-defensive team.
He played 32 games last season for Cairns Taipans, of the Australian League, where he was named all-league first team, averaging 15 points, four assists and four rebounds.
