Rumor Central: Sixers aim to sign Joel Embiid to extension

Joel Embiid, the No. 3 pick in the 2014 NBA draft, is eligible to sign a contract extension from the end of the July moratorium until just before the start of the 2017-18 regular season. According to Philadelphia 76ers owner Josh Harris, the team is "focused" on signing Embiid to an extension.

"Look, I'd just say we want Joel to be on the team for a long time," Harris told The Intelligencer. "We want us all to grow old together. That's the way I would put it."

Signing Embiid to an extension that could be worth between $113 million to $146 million is risky for the Sixers because the center has played in just 31 games during his first three years in the NBA due to foot and knee injuries.
