Monday afternoon, the Philadelphia 76ers announced that they planned to retire Dolph Schayes’ number ‘4’ jersey on January 23 at a halftime ceremony when the Sixers play the Boston Celtics. Schayes’ number joins plenty of Sixers and Flyers legends up in the rafters of the Wells Fargo Center, and is the ninth player number to be retired. He joins players like Allen Iverson, Julius Erving, and Billy Cunningham, just to name a few.
Schayes averaged a double-double over the course of his career, coached the Sixers and won a Coach of the Year award, and is in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.
