The Sixers signed Brand to a five-year, $82 million contract in 2008. After missing 74 games in the prior season because of an Achilles' tendon injury, Brand had season-ending shoulder surgery in 2009 and played in only 29 games in his first season with the Sixers. Brand never returned to the player he once was, and the Sixers released Brand via the amnesty clause in 2012.
NBA free agency is less than seven days away, and the Sixers will have their opportunity to make a splash this offseason. The Sixers have more than enough cap room, so it will be more of a question of who will be willing to sign with the Sixers rather than who the Sixers want to sign.
