The Sixers push to get Joel Embiid voted in as an All-Star starter was a successful campaign. It certainly helped that his performance dictated his worthiness of selection as much as his rising popularity.
The team similarly pushed for rookie point guard Ben Simmons to be in the mix, too, and in regards to fan voting, that pretty much worked. Media and players didn’t seem to agree.
Campaigning won’t get the Sixers youngster anywhere for an All-Star reserve slot — All-Star reserves are selected by the league’s head coaches, and as a rookie, it’s an uphill battle for Simmons to make the cut.
