LAS VEGAS – No one should be surprised that 76ers center Joel Embiid is a member of the Team Africa squad that will compete against Team World in the NBA Africa Game. But no one should be surprised that he won’t play in the Aug. 5 exhibition in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The Cameroonian center had season-ending surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee in March. He has been rehabilitating and getting back into game shape. Embiid is expected to be ready when the Sixers head to training camp in September.
The game is put on by the NBA and the National Basketball Players Association and will take place after the 15th edition of Basketball Without Borders Africa, a series of camps for youngsters featuring NBA players.
